What it is

Thread vein removal is a targeted treatment designed to reduce or eliminate small, visible blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin, commonly on the face (around the nose and cheeks) or legs.

These veins, often called spider veins, are harmless but can become more noticeable over time due to genetics, sun exposure, ageing, or lifestyle factors.

At FX, thread veins are treated using advanced electrolysis, where a fine probe delivers a controlled electrical current to the vessel. This heat causes the vein to collapse and be naturally reabsorbed by the body, improving the overall appearance of the skin.

Benefits

  • Reduces the appearance of visible thread veins and redness
  • Improves overall skin tone and clarity
  • Precise treatment that targets only the affected vessels
  • Suitable for small, localised areas (especially on the face)
  • Minimal downtime compared to more invasive procedures
  • Can deliver noticeable improvement quickly, with continued results as the skin heals

What to expect

Your appointment will begin with a consultation to assess the area and confirm suitability for treatment.

During the procedure, a very fine probe is applied to the surface of the skin, targeting the thread vein directly. A controlled electrical current generates heat, which causes the vein to coagulate and collapse.

You may feel a mild stinging or warming sensation, but treatment is generally quick and well tolerated.

Immediately after treatment, the area may appear slightly red, and the treated vein may darken or become less visible. In some cases, a small crust or pinpoint scab may form as part of the natural healing process.

Aftercare

  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or picking the treated area
  • Do not apply makeup or active skincare products for at least 24 hours
  • Avoid heat treatments such as saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoid sun exposure and use SPF to protect the treated area during healing
  • Allow any small scabs or crusts to fall away naturally

Proper aftercare helps reduce the risk of irritation and supports the best possible result.

FAQs

Are thread veins dangerous?

Thread veins are usually harmless and a common cosmetic concern. However, if you are unsure about any skin change, it should be assessed before treatment.

Does thread vein removal hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as mild and brief, with a slight stinging or heat during treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Some thread veins can be treated in a single session, but multiple or more stubborn veins may require additional treatments.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal. You may experience temporary redness or slight scabbing, but most people return to normal activities quickly.

Will the veins come back?

Treated veins are usually permanently removed, but new thread veins can develop over time due to underlying factors such as skin type, lifestyle, or genetics.

Is it suitable for all areas?

Advanced electrolysis is most effective for small, superficial thread veins, particularly on the face. Larger or deeper veins may require alternative treatments.

When will I see results?

Some improvement is visible immediately, with full results becoming clearer as the skin heals over the following days.
