What it is

Skin tag removal is a quick, targeted treatment designed to remove benign, soft skin growths that commonly appear in areas of friction such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, chest, or under the breasts.

Skin tags are harmless, but many people choose to remove them because they catch on clothing or jewellery, feel uncomfortable, or affect confidence.

At FX, skin tag removal is carried out using advanced electrolysis, which uses a fine probe and controlled electrical current to treat the base of the tag so it dries, shrinks, and naturally sheds as the area heals. This method is precise and suitable for small, superficial blemishes.

Benefits

  • Removes unwanted skin tags quickly and precisely
  • Helps reduce rubbing, catching, or irritation from clothing and jewellery
  • Suitable for small, localised blemishes
  • Minimal downtime compared with more invasive procedures
  • Often provides immediate visible improvement, with the final result becoming clearer as healing progresses

What to expect

Your appointment will usually begin with a consultation to confirm that the lesion is suitable for cosmetic treatment and to explain the expected result. If anything looks unusual, you may be advised to seek medical assessment first.

During treatment, a very fine sterile probe is applied to the base of the skin tag. A controlled current is used to cauterise or dry out the tissue so the tag can be safely removed or can dry and fall away as the area heals.

You may feel a brief warming, stinging, or scratching sensation, but treatment is usually very quick and well tolerated.

After treatment, the area may look slightly red or raised, and a small dry crust or scab can form. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Aftercare

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry for the first 24 to 48 hours
  • Do not pick, scratch, or rub the area
  • Allow any small scab to come away naturally
  • Avoid makeup, perfumed products, deodorant on the area, or anything likely to irritate the skin for at least 24 hours, or as advised by your practitioner
  • Avoid heat treatments such as saunas, steam rooms, vigorous exercise, and swimming for the first 24 to 48 hours
  • Protect the area from sun exposure while it heals, especially if the treated area is visible

If you notice unusual pain, increasing redness, discharge, or delayed healing, seek advice promptly.

FAQs

Are skin tags dangerous?

Skin tags are usually harmless and very common. However, if a growth changes in colour or shape, bleeds, crusts, or you are unsure what it is, it should be checked by a medical professional before cosmetic removal.

Does skin tag removal hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as mild and brief, with a little heat or stinging during treatment. Sensitivity varies depending on the area being treated.

How long does the treatment take?

Skin tag removal is usually a short treatment, especially for small or isolated tags. Appointment length depends on the number, size, and location of the skin tags being treated.

Will I need more than one session?

Many skin tags can be treated in a single session, but larger tags or multiple areas may need additional treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is usually minimal. The area may be red for a short time and can develop a tiny scab or crust while it heals.

Will it leave a mark?

When treated correctly and cared for properly, skin tag removal usually heals well. As with any skin treatment, there is a small risk of temporary marks or pigmentation changes, which is why following aftercare closely matters.

Can anyone have skin tag removal?

Most people are suitable, but treatment is not appropriate for every lesion. A consultation is important to confirm the blemish is a skin tag and safe to treat cosmetically.

If you need, I can format the next treatment page in exactly the same structure so your CMS stops looking like a half-finished renovation.
